XRM Toolbox is one of the must have tools for every Microsoft Dynamics CRM Administrator, Developer or Customizer, since it will allow you to perform a lot of tasks in a much easier fashion. In this article we will cover what the application is for, how to download it and list the most useful plugins I usually use.
1)Introduction to XRM ToolBox for Dynamics CRM
It’s a free application that connects to your Dynamics CRM instances and provides a myriad of plugins to facilitate your daily operations as well as some complex operations! The main advantage of these plugins is the time you will save by using them!
Have you ever spent hours configuring user roles? Have you ever spent hours wondering why some users can edit some entities and which role gives them access to it? Last time you added roles for your users, did you do it for each one of them manually?
The Privileges Discovery will basically allow you to search for roles implementing specific rights.
The Role Updater will allow you to give or remove rights from multiple user roles in bulk.
The User Roles Manager will allow you to give or remove multiple roles to multiple users.
Still not convinced? Here’s some of my favorite picks!
Site Map Editor: This wonderful tool allows you to edit the site map (reorganize your menu) of your organizations without touching a single line of XML code.
Ribbon Workbench 2016: It’s much faster than the solution you can install in your Development instance and perfect for editing Ribbons.
Document Template Manager: Download and Upload your Templates in bulk this is just not available in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Interface.
Document Templates Mover: Tired of modifying your workflows referencing templates every time you deliver a solution from your development environment to your production environment? Look no further, the templates will be moved, so will their GUID!
2) Installing XRM ToolBox
So by now you probably admit that this tool looks interesting and the good news is that you’re just a few steps away from using it!
The installation is quite easy, you can begin bydownloading the tool from the main website at https://www.xrmtoolbox.com.
Once the file is downloaded, you may extract it to a folder and create a link to the .EXE file so you can access it in your Desktop:
Once you run the tool there’s a couple of key elements to use
1- Connect: Allows you to connect to a CRM Instance
2- Search: Search the Plugins you have already downloaded (there are about 30 available when you download the tool).
3- Plugins Store: Allows you to search and download more plugins.
You can store connections to your different instances:
When ever you open a plugin, the program will ask you if you wish to connect to an organization first.
Hope you enjoyed the show and that the tool will make your life easier!
